About SOCCA

Our Mission

We aim to bring people together to celebrate the richness of Asian cultures. Through fun, hands-on activities and open conversations, we invite our community to learn, share, and connect—building understanding and respect in a way that’s both joyful and meaningful.

About Us

Our Goal

Our goal is to sponsor educational and cultural events in Southern Oregon that showcase Asian culture and traditions.

Our Roots

SOCCA, founded in 2005, is deeply connected to Jacksonville, Oregon—a town strongly influenced by Chinese immigrants. Early Chinese settlers played a vital role in shaping the area’s economic and cultural identity. We honor that history through education, celebration, and community engagement.

Our Signature Event

Beginning in 2005, SOCCA hosted an annual Chinese New Year Celebration in downtown Jacksonville. The Celebration featured traditional lion and dragon dances, zodiac-themed performances, cultural presentations, and hands-on activities for all ages. The parade was a highlight, bringing together local schools and community groups in a joyful display of heritage and unity.

Expanding Our Circle

While continuing traditional Chinese New Year customs, in 2024, SOCCA welcomed Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Filipino partners in a Lunar New Year Celebration, honoring shared traditions across Asian cultures. The Lunar New Year Celebration is a dynamic, Pan-Asian festival that celebrates the rich cultural tapestry of Southern Oregon.

Powered by Community

SOCCA’s work is made possible through the generous support of regional businesses, arts organizations, educational institutions, volunteers, and media sponsors. Their contributions support inclusive, educational, and entertaining experiences that bring people together.
